Homemakers

November 11, 2015 · Scruffy City Hall · Socialize 7:00 p.m. · Screen 8:00 p.m.

Part-time Austin indie rocker and full-time harbinger of chaos Irene (Rachel McKeon) arrives in Pittsburgh to claim her inheritance: the crumbling, abandoned three-story row house built by her great-grandfather. With the help of a drinking buddy who happens to be her long lost cousin, Irene attempts a boozy restoration project and discovers in the forgotten home a hidden urge to settle down, but when shit gets shitty, Irene’s newfound domesticity may not be strong enough to subdue the rampaging child within.

“The film milks the most it can from all its opportunities for big moments of physical comedy, yet sneaks underneath a surprisingly affecting consideration of the desire of this generation of twentysomethings to get back to less complicated times.” — Stephen Saito, The Moveable Fest

“A brave and original film” — Joe Blessing, Stage Buddy

About the Filmmaker

Director Q&A via Skype

Filmmaker and writer Colin Healey derives inspiration from naive impressions of American landscapes and the local narratives that turn ‘spaces’ into ‘places.’ His debut feature, Homemakers, was selected for the IFP Narrative Completion Labs and premiered at the 2014 Independent Film Festival Boston, where it won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature. Healey is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design’s Department of Film, Animation, & Video.
